Welcome from the Elementary School Principal

Mr. Damon Rickett

ES_PrincipalElementary School is a special time in a child’s education. It is a period during which children experience exponential growth and progress and develop many of the foundational skills and dispositions that they will carry forward into their lives.

At VIS, the elementary staff strive not only to create a safe, caring and supportive environment in which to learn, but also to maximize each individual student’s potential. They do this by implementing modern pedagogical approaches to teaching and learning in order to empower students to become inclusive, respectful and inquisitive members of our community.

Our curriculum is based on the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) and International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC). These curricula provide frameworks upon which we deliver instruction. Students engage in thematic units that allow them to take ownership over their learning and inquire based on their interests and readiness. Instruction is differentiated and units focus on developing both academic and social-emotional skills and dispositions.

Community partnership is one of the defining characteristics of our school. We believe these partnerships are key to supporting our learners as they grow and develop. Regular, ongoing communication between the school and home is an important value at VIS. Additionally, if you are interested in becoming involved with the school, please take the time to review the Elementary Parent Handbook for more details. We are always eager to hear from you!

It is my sincere hope that you find your experience at VIS positive and rewarding. If you would like to learn more about our school, please contact us with any questions you might have or arrange an appointment.

In partnership,

Damon Rickett

Elementary Principal
