LIBRARY AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

IT Guiding Statement

At VIS we demonstrate a balanced and purposeful use of technology to support all aspects of school life

  • Technology is woven into the fabric of our organisation through a collaborative culture, approaches to teaching and learning, and our professional and parental community.

  • We are open-minded to the evolving, varied nature of technology and the potential it provides for self-directed and responsible choices as well as mindful of the risks it entails.

  • We provide space and opportunities for everyone to be innovative and incorporate technology that enriches teaching and learning into all aspects of school life, while endeavouring to ensure the safe environment for our students.

Each classroom has its own internet-linked computer, in addition to the Instructional Media Centre, which offers the opportunity for whole class instruction.  Library and Computer Studies classes are an integral part of the curriculum.  Our librarian encourages students to develop a love of reading through introducing various authors and genres.  In addition, research skills are taught to assist students when gathering information for their IPC thematic units.  Students develop their keyboarding skills, and learn how to use software programs such as Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
